The ROC license is a Canadian Federal government-issued card that allows you to operate a marine VHF radio. As a result of a partnership between Sail Canada and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, eligible Sail Canada instructors can be granted the authority to deliver the Maritime Radio Certificate with DSC endorsement training and exam.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PROVIDE THE COURSE?
Sail Canada Instructors with current CANSail 3 & 4 Instructor certification, Basic Powerboat Instructor and/or a Basic Cruising Instructor certification or high levels, are eligible to instruct the Maritime Radio License Course and conduct exams for the ROC(M).
HOW DO INSTRUCTORS CONFIRM ELIGIBILITY?
Instructors who are interested in providing this training must contact Sail Canada to confirm they meet the requirements and to request they be granted certification as a ROCM Instructor. What should an instructor do to become eligible? Sail Canada Instructors who do not have the required ROC(M) prerequisite should contact a qualified Sail Canada instructor. Eligible Instructors are required to purchase a Maritime Radio Course Manual and all student Course Manuals, tests, answer sheets, marking keys, application forms and any other related materials for each student. All materials are available for order through the Sail Canada. Instructor and student packages are available in the Online Store.
WHERE ARE THE COMPLETED COURSE MATERIALS TO BE SENT?
Instructors must send all completed test materials plus a $25 processing fee for each exam directly to CPS, for confirmation and issue of cards to successful candidates.
WHAT PRICE CAN THE INSTRUCTORS CHARGE FOR THE MATERIALS?
Sail Canada instructors may set their own fees but are advised that the cost should be relatively comparable to CPS. Instructor and student packages are available in the Online Store.
