Questions and Answers:

1. How does qualifying for Toronto 2015 compare to qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in Athens?
Being part of any games is a great honor.  After many years of dedication and hard work to the sport, qualifying for Athens was incredible!  I have been racing the Lightning since 1997.  The fleet, the competition and its competitors are great.  Jamie and Jay are some of my oldest friends.  To share the Pan Am experience with them will be a new adventure in our 20+ year friendship. Over the years in competition, we have become friends with many of the competitors we will face out on the water. Jamie, Jay and I have dreamed of competing at the Pan Am games for years!

2. Who is your role model, and/or where do you draw your inspiration from?
I can’t say that I only have one role model.  There are many people in my life that have inspired me and continue to inspire me.  It really depends on the situation.   I started racing with my junior sailing partner Christina Chaniotis.  Sailing with her inspired me to eventually continue racing at an International level.

3. If you could participate at an elite level for any other sport besides sailing, what would it be?
Growing up, I loved mogul skiing.  I would dream of competing in the winter games event.

4. What do you believe is the key to success?
Passion, time and hard work.  If you love what you do it will be easy to find the time to pursue what you love.

5. If you were to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
Determined- you put your eye on the prize and pursue it with all your might!

6. If you could have any actor/actress play you in a movie, who would you choose and why?
Charleize Theron.  She’s beautiful, classy and smart.

7. If you could sail with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
I would love to sail with Ross McDonald.  We were both part of the Olympic Team in 2004.  Ross is one of the most humble and sweet people that I have ever met.  It would be an honor to sail with one of the greatest Canadian sailors.

8. What does the average day in the life of Chantal include?
I have been working in import/export since 2007.  I have always enjoyed being active so I make it a point to work it into my week.  It used to be something I did full time when training on the National team but now that I work full time I still make it a priority in my life.  My activities now (other than sailing) include mountain biking, ultimate Frisbee, telemark skiing, group workouts to name a few.  I’m pretty happy to jump into any activity as long as I’m with a good group of people!
