The 2021 West Marine US Open Sailing Series in Fort Lauderdale wrapped up today

Laser sailors are back in action at the 2021 West Marine US Open Sailing Series in Fort Lauderdale.

The four days of racing brought in a variety of conditions, from breezy to light and shifty. Four of our athletes stayed at the top of the scoreboard throughout the entirety of the event.

In the Laser fleet, Fillah Karim led the pack of Canadians throughout the beginning of the event until his teammate, Luke Ruitenberg caught up to him on the last day of racing. The final results put Luke in 5th and Fillah in 6th place, followed by Liam Bruce in 17th.

In the Radial, Sarah Douglas stayed closed to her opponents. Scoring a bullet within the event, she finished in 3rd overall.

Each Canadian athlete that attended this event went through a thorough COVID screening and have been following the Sail Canada High Performance Covid mitigation policies while on site to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
