February 18, 2020
The 2020 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 World Championships wrapped up over the weekend in Geelong, Australia. Port Phillip Bay provided some challenging conditions with lots of shifty conditions. Due to high winds, sailors were stuck on shore for two days of the regatta, but members of the CSDS still managed to come out on top.
As part of the internal selection process for the 2020 Olympic Games, this event ranked high on the importance list for our sailors.
Ali Ten Hove and Mariah Millen proved that hard work pays off during the testing event. Finishing in 18th overall, the duo managed to beat a personal best leaving them in good standing going into the second part of their Olympic trial.
“We are content to see that our hard work is starting to show through our results. This past week proved to be very tricky racing in offshore shifty conditions. Although we feel we left lost points on the racecourse it makes us hungry for more and gives us the fuel we need during the lead up to the Olympics.”Ali Ten Hove & Mariah Millen, CSDS
On the 49er side, Will Jones and Evan Depaul lead the Canadian troops. Placing in 39th overall, they put up some good scores throughout the week with several top 10 finishes. Find results from the event here.
Watch for members of the CSDS in Spain at the Princess Sofia Regatta from the 27th of March to April 4th.
