Athlete Bio

Delani was born and raised in St.Paul, Alberta. It was there that her love for sailing began at just four years old. She sailed on the northern lakes with her father. At the age of 12 she joined her local sea cadet corps to explore competitive sailing around the country in double handed dinghies. At 14 she travelled to Victoria, BC and started training in a 2.4mR with Stephen McBride at RVYC. The 2.4mR had great potential for adaptations; she knew this is where she would thrive. At this time, she was the youngest competitive 2.4mR sailor in Canada. Delani took 2nd place at the Sail West Regatta in 2012 at her final 420 regatta before making the switch to full time 2.4mR sailing. In 2013 Delani moved to the west coast to maximize her time on the water at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club.

At the Canada Summer Games in 2017, Delani suffered from equipment failure that put her out of medal contention; ending the regatta in 4th. Shortly after this event Delani applied for the C. Thomas Clagett Jr. Memorial Boat Grant Program in Newport, RI. She was awarded the 2017 boat grant and received a brand new 2.4mR, allowing her to continue her pursuit. That same year, Delani launched Life over Limb, 2.4mR Performance Sailing campaign. She attended her first Clagett Regatta/US Para Championship in 2018 and finished as the 1st female, 6th overall and won the Larry Gadsby Trophy for Most Improved Sailor. In 2018 Delani competed in her first para world championship in Sheboygan, WI finishing in 26th. She also had the honour of being the flag bearer for Canada.
Delani’s most recent success and personal best was at the 2019 Para World Championship in Puerto Sherry, Spain where she finished in 13th overall and 2nd female. Delani continues to work and train at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club as a Sailing Coach, Program Coordinator and competitor.
