Sail Canada launches its 2021-2024 Strategic Plan: Sail for All, Sail for Life, Sail to Win

Kingston, September 15, 2021 ‰ÛÒ Sail Canada is launching today its new Strategic Plan for 2021-2024, the result of more than one year of collective work carried out by the Canadian sailing community across the country.

Sail Canada’s 2021-2024 Strategic Plan sets out to embody its motto: ‰ÛÏSail for All, Sail for Life, Sail to Win‰Û. Its vision is to be a leading international sailing nation that is proud of its world-class athletes, lifelong participants and inclusive culture. The plan is based on the fundamental values of Sail Canada, which are collaboration and innovation, transparency, accountability and integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion, a culture of excellence, safety for all and environmental sustainability.

To carry out this vision, Sail Canada will aim to LEAD as a national sport organization, ENABLE enhanced participation as well as DRIVE sport development and performance for all.

“With this new Strategic Plan, Sail Canada is looking to live up to its potential to build the sport for current and future generations across this country as the theme of excellence resonates throughout the plan in every aspect of the sport, whether it be coaching, officiating, volunteering, learn to sail or cruise programs, athlete development, or local and national competitions,” said Sail Canada Chief Executive Officer, Don Adams. “Within this new framework which aims to move the sport of sailing forward in the country, Sail Canada is looking to do things differently, through well-planned and intentional initiatives for the benefit of our members, sailors, athletes, partners and stakeholders.”

“I would like to thank everyone involved forgiving input on this Strategic Plan, and for the guidance provided by members of the Strategic Task Force. We hope that every Sail Canada member will be inspired by this new Strategic Plan and will consider how these key initiatives, strategies and priorities can be incorporated into the invaluable roles everyone plays in Canada‰Ûªs sailing community,” added Don Adams.

Strategic actions

Under this new Strategic Plan, Sail Canada will focus its work over the next few years on certain priorities and goals which are aligned with this new framework. They are:

-Aligning a shared vision with our partners

-Adopting best organizational practices especially in matters of safe sport, diversity, equity, inclusion, financial and environmental sustainability

-Improving the marketability and perceived value of sailing

-Improving accessibility to all Canadians, and attracting new participants

-Offering enjoyable, innovative, and value-added programs and services

-Providing targeted and identified athletes with the support necessary to achieve world-class performances

-Instilling a culture of excellence

A sport in the Olympic program since the first Games in 1896, except in 1904, the pursuit of success in these Games is what fuels the focus of Sail Canada as Canadian athletes have so far achieved nine Olympic and five Paralympic medals.
