John Clark has passed away

Kingston, January 21, 2024 – It is with great sadness that Sail Canada shares with the Canadian sailing community the passing of the owner of JC Sails/Kingston Sail Loft and world champion in two classes, John Clark.

He passed away January 17, 2024, following a struggle with cancer at the age of 59.

Born in 1964, John Clark learned to sail at Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club and some of his many sailing accomplishments included being a seven-time Shark World Champion between 1994 and 2004 and an Albacore World Champion. John’s sailing passions more recently turned to kiteboarding including locally and in exotic locations around the world.

John owned Kingston Sail Loft (formerly JC Sails) for over 30 years, crafting race winning sails for many different sailing classes including Sharks, as well as for many offshore sailboats.

Sail Canada would like to offer its sincere condolences to the John Clark family, friends, and past customers.

A tribute will be held on January 31, 2024, the day that would have been John’s 60th birthday, at the Red House, 369 King Street East, in Kingston, from 4pm to 7pm.
