Athlete Bio
Maura was born and raised in Victoria, BC where she gained a love of sailing at an early age. She learned to sail cruising around the local islands on her grandparents’ keelboat and working her way through learn to sail levels at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Once she finished Silver Sail (her first time in a Laser Radial) her coach suggested she try out the junior racing team. A few years later she had her first major competition success, winning the Canadian Youth National Championships in 2009. This result first sparked her desire to pursue high performance sailing and her goal to sail for Canada at the Olympic Games. From 2010 to 2015 Maura completed her bachelor degree in physics and math (honours), while continuing to racing competitively on the North American circuit. Once she completed her degree, Maura set her sights on her next big goal: qualifying for the Canadian Sailing Team and the 2020 Olympic Games. Maura is currently on the Canadian Sailing Development Squad
