Date of Birth: January 17, 1996
Evan DePaul started recreational sailing for fun and sailed keelboats until he was 5 years old, but he was more interested in the Timbits after the sessions.
After his parents sold the family’s boat, Evan took a break from sailing and tried other sports. He came back to sailing in 2010 by taking part in the summer program at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club. He however had some disappointment, and this competitive athlete was struggling at first. But his dad encouraged him to continue and complete the two weeks he had signed up for. Evan ended up enjoying it so much that he went back the next summer. He finally joined the racing team at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club in the double handed 420 class and took part in his first regatta in 2012.
In 2015, he teamed up with Will Jones in 49er FX as both were part of the same club and looking for sailing partners.
The Canadian team switched to the 49er in 2016, to be crowned champions in 2017 at the North American Championships as well as at the World Junior Championships in front of a home crowd, in Kingston.
At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Evan DePaul and his partner Will Jones took the 19th position in 49er at their first Games.
Evan DePaul studied in fitness and health to become a trainer for elite athletes. During his free time, he also coaches youth sailing programs.
