A Canadian Yachting Association Certified Pleasure Craft Operator Card Instructor has the best training to teach you all you will need to know to pass the Transport Canada approved test.

You have three options:

1. Challenge Exam - Register for the test in your area
2. Refresher Course - For those who have taken boating courses before
3. Complete Course - The best choice and one that every boating family should take together

Proof of Competency

If you have completed a CYA course prior to April 1, 1999 and have documentation, it may be used as proof of competency. These are the CYA courses that are acceptable:

  • Basic (or Intermediate, or Advanced) Coastal Cruising
  • Basic (or Intermediate) Power Boating
  • Basic Outboarding

A copy of your certificate or the card issued at the completion of courses taken prior to April 1, 1999 will need to be carried on board the pleasure craft.

CYA has now been added to the list of accredited course providers that can issue a PCOC to holders of marine safety certificates. View Transport Canada's list of recognized marine safety certificates for the issuance of a pleasure craft operator card.

It is our belief that a boater who has not received their PCOC would have contacted CYA within a twelve-month period to inquire about the status of the card. Replacement Cards cost $21.00 ($20.00 plus GST). The PCOC Replacement Card fee will be levied on individuals with application forms dated prior to twelve (12) months of the request for a PCOC Re-Issue.
