Throughout June, the Winnipeg Sailing Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, proudly hosted Sailing with Pride—a series of four evening sailing events celebrating inclusivity on the water. Funded by Sail Canada’s Sailing for All initiative, these sessions welcomed members of the 2SLGBTQAI+ community to experience the joy of sailing in a safe, supportive, and affirming environment.
Held on the beautiful Lake Devonian at FortWhyte Alive, each evening brought together a group of enthusiastic newcomers ready to learn the ropes (pun intended!). In total, 20 participants took to the water, many trying sailing for the very first time. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with several attendees returning for additional lessons in July and August. These events offered a meaningful way to celebrate Pride Month—by building community, creating new experiences, and making sailing more accessible to everyone.
Thanks to Sail Canada and the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All Initiative for supporting this program.
