Youth Champs Wrap Up!

The Canadian Youth Championships came to an end yesterday after 4 days of racing. The event saw an array of wind conditions from tricky and shifty to a classic Kingston sea breeze. With over 350 competitors and the 2015 Youth Worlds qualifiers it was an exciting week of racing in Kingston.

In the Radial Fleet, Francisco Guaragna of Argentina took first place. 2014 Canadian Youth Champion and Ontario sailing team member Matti Muru finished top Canadian Radial, and 4th over all, securing a spot on the 2015 Youth Worlds Team. Quebec Sailing Team member Coralie Vittecoq finished top Radial Female gaining her spot as the Canadian female single handed athlete on the 2015 Youth Worlds team.

Forest Wachholz continued to lead the Laser Standard fleet in day 4 of racing securing 1st place in the regatta. Ontario Sailing Team teammate Braden Garvey finished close behind in 2nd place, followed by Conrad Vandlik of the United States.

In the 4.7 Henryk Luczynski (ON) led the fleet through the 4 days of racing finishing 1st in the regatta.

Local Kingston team Pat Wilson and Arie Moffat held onto their lead into the last day of racing winning the event in the 420 fleet. Terra Lanteigne and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance of Nova Scotia, finished in 2nd, followed by Gray Snyder and Porter of Ontario. Wilson and Moffat had their sights set on qualifying for the Youth Worlds team going into this event and accomplished that goal with an impressive 4 days of racing. Terra Lanteigne and Lewin-LaFrance will be going to the 2015 Youth Worlds as the female 420 team.

In the skiff fleet, Eric Lyall and Andrew Moreno of British Columbia finished in 1st place, closely followed by Cameron Shaw and Henry Lockyer (ON/NS) and Freja Frykman and Astrid Frykman (BC) in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Lyall and Moreno qualified as the male 29er team and Frykam and Frykman qualified as the female 29er team for the 2015 Youth Worlds in Malaysia.

In the RS:X 8.5 fleet Juan Varela (MEX), Mack Van den Eerenbeemt (ARU), Maximo Nores (USA) finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U19 category. Zane Federer (ON) was the first Canadian.

In the Techno 293 Geronimo Nores (USA), Mariana Aguilar (MEX), Anthony Swaelens (CAN) finished in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
