Women’s National Keelboat Championships Wrap-Up

Wednesday September 21, 2016 – Kingston, ON

Twenty-two boats hit the water this past weekend at Britannia Yacht Club for the BMO 2016 Women’s National Keelboat Championship. The event kicked off on Thursday, September 15 with an on-water training clinic and the opening ceremonies. This was followed by three days of racing, where the top three crews were awarded Helly Hansen prizes.

After eight competitive races in mild conditions, Melodie Gummer and crew Carol Luttmer and Susan Fraser (ON) were victorious. The trio secured the gold medal by winning five out of eight of the races. Jinnie Gordon, Eileen Quigley, and Laurel Gordon (ON) captured a second place finish, while Stephanie Bacon, Sarah Turpie, Catherine Haywood, and Lisa Aiken (BC) took home the bronze.

The Women’s National Keelboat Championship was the final regatta in the Sail Canada Championships series. Thank you to all of the participants, volunteers, and Britannia Yacht Club for putting on such a successfully event. We hope to see you at next year’s regatta at Lunenburg Yacht Club in Nova Scotia.
