Senior Championships at CORK OCR - Day 5

Sailors are in Kingston and ready to get out on the water for the 2017 Sail Canada Senior Championships at CORK OCR.

All fleets will start racing on Saturday, August 19th with racing for the Finns ending August 21st and racing for the 49er, 49erFX and I14 fleets finishing on Tuesday, August 22nd.

Laser and Laser Radial fleets will be competing through the weekend and into the week with 5 days of racing.

With 6 fleets and over 60 competitors it is sure to be a great event at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour!

 

Day 5 - August 23rd

Racing for the Laser and Radial fleets wrapped up today after 5 days of racing. Sailors experienced some mixed conditions throughout the event, with winds averaging 12-15 knots most days. 

It was tight racing for the Laser fleet in the two final races of the regatta today. Canadian Sailing Team member Robert Davis sailed to eight 1st place finishes through 12 races to win overall. Final standings are:

1st – Robert Davis (CAN)
2nd – Erik Bowers (USA)
3rd - Yanic Gentry (MEX)
4th - Max Gallant (CAN)
5th – Scott Rasmussen (USA)
 

In the Radial fleet, Canadian Sailing Team Member Coralie Vittecoq takes 1st place overall, with 11 bullets in 12 races. The final standings for the Radial sailors are: 

1st – Coralie Vittecoq (CAN)
2nd – Taisei Hatter (USA)
3rd – Campbell Patton (BER)

Day 4 - August 22nd

Day 4 of racing at CORK OCR & Sail Canada brought high winds and stormy skies! The Laser and Laser Radial fleets got out on the water in the morning but were soon postponed on land due to poor weather. As a result of thunderstorms rolling through Kingston both the Laser and Skiff courses did not get any racing in.

Today was the last day of racing for the 49er, 49erFX and I14 fleets. The final results for the 49er and 49erFX fleets after 12 races over 4 days are:

49er - 1st Mark Farmer & Trevor Parekh, 2nd Ryan & Andrew Wood, 3rd John & Arthur Ferguson

49erFX 1st Ali Ten Hove & Mariah Millen, 2nd Jean - Matthiew Bolland & Timma Flanagan, 3rd William Bonin & Samuel Bonin


The final results for the I14 fleet after 8 races over 4 days are:

1st - Peter Hayward & Marco Koechli
2nd - Greg Loffree & Ingrid Merry
3rd- Jason Lemieux & Lauren Laventure

Day 3 – August 21

Kingston delivered again for the third day of racing at CORK OCR & Sail Canada! The southwest breeze averaged 14 knots through the afternoon, under sunny skies.

Today marked the last day of racing for the Finn fleet. Despite being a small fleet, the competitors showed great comradery and on and off the water. Final results after 9 races over three days are:
 
1st – Steve Landeau (USA)
2nd – Simon van Wonderen (CAN)
3rd – Fujimura Yuji
 

The 49er & FX fleets continued their racing today with four races sailed. Going into the last day of racing tomorrow, the leaders are:

49er – Farmer/Parekh (CAN), 2nd Wood/Wood (CAN), 3rd Ferguson/Ferguson (CAN)

FX – 1st ten Hove/Millen (CAN), 2nd Bolland/Flanagan (CAN), 3rd Bonin/Bonin (CAN)

The Laser and Radial fleets, completed four races today, to put them ahead of schedule with two more days to go. There was some movement in the top three of the Laser fleet today, the leaders are:

Laser – 1st Davis (CAN), 2nd Rasmussen (USA), 3rd Gallant (CAN)

Radial – 1st Vittecoq (CAN), 2nd Hatter (USA), 3rd Johnson (USA)

The I14 fleet sailed their distance race today and will return to course racing for their final day tomorrow.

Day 2 - August 20

Day two of CORK OCR & Sail Canada Senior Championships brought classic Kingston conditions averaging 15 knots of breeze through the afternoon.

The Laser, Radial and Finn fleets sailed four races to bring their total to six after two days. On the double-handed course the FX, 49er and I14 fleets also sailed four races.

Radial – 1st Vittecoq (CAN), 2nd Hatter (USA), 3rd Johnson (USA)

Finn – 1st Landeau (USA), 2nd van Wonderen (CAN), 3rd Yuji (JPN)

49er – 1st Parekh/Farmer (CAN), 2nd Ferguson/Ferguson (CAN), 3rd Wood/Wood (CAN) 

FX – 1st ten Hove/Millen (CAN), 2nd Bolland/Flanagan (CAN), 3rd Bonin/Bonin (CAN)

I14 – 1st Hayward/Koechli (CAN), 2nd Loffree/Merry (CAN), 3rd Lemieux/Laventure (CAN)

Tomorrow marks the final day of racing the Finn fleet, while racing continues Monday for all others.

Day 1- August 19

The Sail Canada Senior Championships & CORK OCR started today at Portsmouth Harbour in Kingston. The Kingston Town Crier and MP Mark Garretson, kicked off the event with an official welcome for Sailor, Coaches, Volunteers and supporters.

Day one brought good breeze, with 12 knots as racing started at noon and increased through the afternoon. On the single-handed course, two races were completed for Lasers, Radial and Finn fleets. The 49er, FX and I14 fleets sailed three races. The leaders after day one are: 

Laser- 1st Davis (CAN), 2nd Bowers (USA), 3rd Gallant (CAN)

Radial – 1st Vittecoq (CAN), 2nd Hatter (USA), 3rd Luczynski (CAN)

Finn – 1st Landeau (USA), 2nd van Wonderen (CAN), 3rd Yuji (JPN)

49er – 1st Ferguson/Ferguson (CAN), 2nd Parekh/Farmer (CAN), 3rd Wood/Wood (CAN)

FX – 1st ten Hove/Millen (CAN), 2nd Bolland/Flanagan (CAN), 3rd Richardson/Chiu

I14 – 1st Struthers/Cunningham, 2nd Lemieux/Laventure, 3rd Hayward/Koechli
