Sail Canada is pleased to announce the Sailor of the Month – September 2015 - Canadian Sailing Team member – Isabella Bertold – RVYC

The ISAF Sailing World Cup Qingdao was the 4th installment of the World cup series, welcoming more than 300 sailors from 32 nations including Canadian Laser sailor Robert Davis (KYC) and Radial sailor Isabella Bertold (RVYC).

Isabella sailed her most consistent event all year with a string of second place finishes, settling nicely into podium position ahead of the medal race day. Bertold could not catch up to Dongshuang Zhang (CHN) on the final day, thus cementing the silver medal, her second World Cup podium finish of her career. "It feels great to be back to sailing like I know I can. This event was super close racing and I really enjoyed it." Isabella is gearing up for the next pinnacle event, the Radial World Championships in Al Mussanah, Oman from November 17-26.

Fall sailing season continues in Canada with Terry Mclaughlin (Pan Am silver medalist) and team winning the J105 Canadian Championships and Paralympic sailor Bruce Millar capturing the title at the 2.4mR Canadians.

National team sailor Sarah Douglas took home the title in Radial class at Fall Cork while hometown sailor Hugh McCrae claims the Laser title at the 2-day event.

Peter Hall hit a triple in the Soling class this month winning the Canadian championships in Kingston, the North Americans in Wilmette, IL followed up by another win at the Italian Championships in Lake Garda.

Canadian Sonar team, Paul Tingley, Scott Lutes and Logan Campbell sailed the Open Sonar World Championships in Falmouth, MA with addition of Head Coach Ken Dool. The event was a good barometer for the upcoming IFDS World Championships, placing top Paralympic boat (7th overall), eight spots ahead of the next Paralympic boat and, within that, securing a race win among the predominantly able-bodied fleet. Tingley and team secured the silver medal at the 2014 IFDS Worlds in Halifax, NS with sights set on another podium finish in Melbourne, AUS in late November.

Sail Canada applauds all the outstanding sailors for their achievements including our Sailor of the Month – September – Isabella Bertold!
