Sail Canada pursues re-instatement: Toyko 2020
Wednesday, February 11, 2015 - Kingston, ON
Sail Canada responded immediately with our disappointment regarding the decision by the International Paralympic Committee to discontinue sailing at the Paralympics in 2020. Initial statement. Subsequently, Sail Canada followed up in a number of ways including:
1. Immediate communication with the President of the International Federation of Disabled Sailing offering support.
2. In association with other Member National Authorities, we have requested the President of ISAF, Carlo Croce, to convene a meeting as soon as possible to consider the best possible strategy for the sailing’s re-instatement in 2020
3. Discussed with the Canadian Paralympic Committee ways in which we can work together to ensure the future of sailing in the Paralympics
4. Responded to ISAF’s questionnaire and request for support
Sail Canada does not believe that it is productive to comment on media speculation as to why sailing was excluded; rather the effort must go in to redressing the situation for 2020. We will continue to take part in the appropriate discussions with national and international governing bodies, our stakeholders and sailors in a committed effort to have sailing re-instated in 2020.
