Richard Ballantyne - RVYC, SISC, SPOG
December 2017 - Richard Ballantyne of RVYC, SISC & SPOGSC in British Columbia
Sailing since he was a kid, Richard Ballantyne has done it all - from lazy family cruising, local PHRF races, high performance one-design racing, to classic yachts to ocean racing. And today it hasn’t stopped… he finds himself enjoying sitting his C&C 30 on the anchor in a nice bay, the camaraderie of working on race organization, and getting out on his old Laser to race against close friends.
So what does Richard do in his spare time? Well, as a Flag Officer at Royal Victoria YC and at SPOGSC he took on the setting of strategies to renew the aging infrastructure of these clubs, and ultimately to get more people out on the water to enjoy themselves. To add to that, he has held Technical Chair and Race Officer roles with the Victoria to Maui International and the Round Saltspring races.
Ballantyne’s volunteering did not stop there! He recently retired from Sail Canada’s Board where he was a Director at Large, Board Secretary and he chaired our Governance Committee. From 2014 to 2017 Richard was an active contributor to Board & staff initiatives, at Board meetings and Sail Canada’s Annual Conferences.
Thank you, Richard!
