Recreational event of the year - Championnat Régional de Yachting de Québec

Thursday, February 28th 2019 - Kingston, ON

It is with great pleasure that Sail Canada presents you with the recipient of the Recreational event of the year to Championnat Régional de Yachting de Québec.

Since 2005, many volunteers gather every year to put on the Championnat Régional de Yachting de Québec. Each season, approximately 13 regattas are run on the St. Lawrence River between Neuville and Cap-à-l'Aigle for 8 weekends.

These regattas gather between 50 and 60 sailboats per season, divided into 3 classes according to the handicaps and the sail plans of the boats. More than 200 people participate annually. The regattas are always open to new participants to promote sailing in a friendly and competitive way, which is supervised and recognized for their integrity and healthy competitiveness.

Their activities are associated with 6 marinas in the region who hosts the events throughout the summer.  Each regatta must respect the notice of race, the sailing instructions and the supplementary sailing instructions (ICC-n) published and sent to the participants before each regatta.

Being recognized with the Recreation Event of the Year award, give us credibility that helps us to recruit new participants and facilitate our communications with the sponsors and our 6 guest marinas. It will also give more visibility to a recreation event open to every sailor who just what to have better sailing skills and compare them in a competitive but friendly race association. We are so honoured about receiving this award, none of it would be possible without the immense help and dedication from our volunteers” - Ivan Simard
