Meet the Recipient of the Volvo Car Volunteer of the Year Award - René Dallaire
February 28th, 2018 - Kingston, ON
It is with great pleasure that Sail Canada presents this year’s Volvo Car Volunteer of the Year Award to René Dallaire!
René Dallaire is recognized for his devotion to bringing sailing to the disabled community. Creating the Association Quebécoise de Voile Adaptée, and since 2002, volunteering his time as AQVA’s full-time Executive Director, René’s dedication is contagious. Today more than 200 people take part in AQVA's activities each summer! René continues to reach out and welcome others with limited mobility or limitations to try the sport he loves.
René received the Ordre national du Québec this summer, in recognition of his leadership and contribution to the Quebec community over the last few decades.
Rene’s contributions to the sport of sailing are absolutely invaluable and deserve the recognition of 2017 Volvo Car Volunteer of the Year.
The Sail Canada Awards will be presented at the Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards on Friday March 2nd, 2018.
The Volvo Cars Volunteer of the Year Award was established in 2015 when Volvo Cars of Canada commenced support of the national award, in place since 1991. This award recognises volunteers for their outstanding contributions to sailing activities at Sail Canada member clubs, Sailing Schools and Regattas. The contribution can be related to activities by the candidate(s) over a period of years or to a specific event or program during a particular year. The candidate(s) must:
a) Have shown leadership qualities with respect to the event or activity.
b) Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
c) The award cannot be awarded to a current director or employee of Sail Canada.
