Tuesday, June 19th 2018 - Kingston, ON
Sailors from 47 nations, gathered to compete at the 34th Medemblik Regatta, in the Netherlands, from May 22 to the 26th 2018. With light and puffy winds at the beginning of the week, sailors were confronted with some challenging conditions.
Canadian Sailing Development Squad (CSDS) athletes, Luke Ruitenberg and Fillah Karim attended the event, competing in the Laser fleet against 43 sailors. While the competition was tough, both sailors made their way up the scoreboard, qualifying for the medal race. Finishing 8th overall, Luke Ruitenberg comments on his week in Medemblik.
“We had lots of sunshine and a full range of conditions over the 5 days of racing in Medemblik. With shifty winds consistency was key. I was happy with my result over all and qualified for my first medal race in an international fleet!”
A mention goes out to Fillah Karim who finished 9th overall at this event!
