Laser Pan Am spot up for grabs - Clearwater, Florida

The Laser Midwinters East kicks off today at the Clearwater Yacht Club with very chilly conditions greeting sailors on their first day of racing. Despite the freeze warnings issued for parts of West Central Florida, Canadian sailors will put on their extra layers head out for a great day of racing. Strong winds hampered the start of the event with no racing today. Committees will work hard to make up for the lost day tomorrow.
The Canadian Laser team have been training hard for this significant regatta, battling for National team spots & Pan Am qualification this week. Key players include Robert Davis (KYC), Tom Ramshaw (SLYC), Lee Parkhill (RCYC), Evert McLaughlin (RCYC), Matt Ryder (SLYC) & Alex Heinzemann (RVYC). The 51 boat fleet is dominated with American’s and Canadians with a total of ten countries represented.
The Radial fleet is very robust with 120 boats and 12 different countries represented. Some of the usual suspects include Brenda Bowskill (RCYC), Claire Merry (RCYC), Sarah Douglas (RCYC), Violet Stafford (KYC/RCYC) & 2014 National Youth Champs Matti Muru (OST) & Antonia Lewin-LaFrance (RNSYS).
Racing starts today with 3 races scheduled each day through until Sunday.
