Toronto, ON – 2.4mR World Championships
The opening day began with overcast skies and a forecast of rain. The fleet was AP on shore at 1000 and a mark boat was sent out to check on wind conditions in the area of the race course. After a wait of 2 hours, the wind made an appearance and the fleet began to leave shore at 1218 (EST).
Race committees managed to squeeze in 2 races before the wind dissipated for the day. Niko Salomaa (FIN) takes an early lead with Megan Pascoe (GBR) in second and Paul Tingley (CAN) in third respectively.
Canadian Paralympic Gold medallist Paul Tingley demonstrates his staying power in the 2.4mR class with a 9, 3 on the day, holding down 3rd overall. A mere month ago, Tingley was sailing with his Sonar teammates Logan Campbell & Scott Lutes to capture the silver medal at the IFDS World Championships in Halifax, NS.
Racing continues today for the worlds best 2.4mR sailors at National Yacht Club.
