Sail Canada’s Emeritus status recognizes individuals, who have made exceptional contributions and provided many years of distinguished service to the sport of sailing in Canada, through ongoing involvement as a volunteer. Individuals eligible for Emeritus status have retired their Sail Canada Certification after long-term involvement as leaders in the sport. This may be as a Certified Sail Canada Official, Instructor or Coach. Emeritus status is an honorary title, rather than a level of certification. It is a lifetime appointment.
Emeritus status is granted by the Sail Canada Training and Certification Advisory Committee, with the support of the Race Management, Judges, Umpires, CANSail and Cruising Sub-Committees. Sub-Committees should nominate only exceptional candidates, and no more than one person in any year for consideration for Emeritus status.
The nomination process is open to Sail Canada Members and Certified Officials, Instructors and Coaches. Nominations will be submitted to the appropriate Sub-Committee for review on an annual basis. Upon review, Sub-Committees will recommend nominees to the Training & Certification Advisory Committee for approval. Final awarding of Emeritus Status is the responsibility of the Training & Certification Committee.
Individuals, who are granted Emeritus Status, will receive a notification from Sail Canada in the form of a letter, along with a certificate to recognize the status. The status will be formally recorded in the Sail Canada database. Nominators, Clubs or Associations may choose to recognize individuals at a public meeting or event in their home region.
