Day 1 of Racing at Youth Worlds
Monday, July 15th, 2019 - Gdynia, Poland
Sailors in all fleets started Day 1 of racing at the 2019 Youth World Championships postponed onshore due to light winds. The breeze slowly began to fill in and the sailors hit the water in the early afternoon. Races started in 6 - 8 knots.
Due to the late start, racing was cancelled for the 29er and i420 Girls, who were scheduled for the second shift of racing.
The 29er Boys fleet completed three races, Thomas and William Staples (RStLYC) had a strong second race finishing in a respectable 2nd place in the 28 boat fleet. They are currently sitting in 13th place overall.
On the Radial course, due to shifty conditions and a number of 4 general recals the Boys fleet finally had a clean start leaving time for only 1 race for the Boys and Girls fleets. The i420 boys sailed 2 races.
Racing continues tomorrow with extra races scheduled;
Girls - 11:00 pm (3 races scheduled)
Boys- 3:00 pm (2 races scheduled)
Girls - 11:00pm (4 races scheduled)
Boys - 3:30 pm (3 races scheduled)
Girls - 12:00pm (3 races scheduled)
Boys - 12:10pm (3 races scheduled)
