Toronto, ON – Canadians continue the push for the podium!
The Race Committee anticipated a stronger morning forecast for Day 4 at the Pan American Games pushing forward the start time to 1030am. Unfortunately the 10kt breeze never truly materialized and fleets were sent out to race in lighter, tricker conditions on all 3 Pan Am courses.
Lee Parkhill rose to the occasion today a stellar performance on Bravo course. Significant shifts and wind range created a lot of work for race committees and sailors alike. Parkhill capitalized on the shifts rallying from the middle to front of the pack with a notable 1, 3, 2. Lee maintains 2nd place position, one point back of GUA Maegli. The Oakville native attributes part of his success to his solid support team of family and friends. “We rarely have the opportunity of competing at this level at home. I can feel their positive energy and it’s raising my game.”
Vancouver native Luke Ramsay is currently tied for 2nd with Ducasse (CHI) sailing his drop score today after 6 races. The intensity will rise in the final two days of preliminary racing as Ramsay will attempt to overtake the lead heading into the medal race on Saturday.
Hobie 16 team Dan Borg and Liana Giavando secured a race win today and will look to improve upon their 5th place over the next few races.
High Performance Director, Ken Dool was complimentary of the Race committee today saying, ‘'Credit to Canadian RC officer Peter Van Muden who had a solid day managing the course and enabling the Laser, Radial and Sunfish to have three very competitive races.’'
Preliminary racing continues tomorrow through until Friday with medal racing for Olympic classes on Saturday and Pan Am boats on Sunday.
