Canadian Youth World Team Support Team
Friday, October 16, 2015 - Kingston, ON
Sail Canada is pleased to announce the coaches selected to support the 2015 Canadian Youth World team in Malaysia this December. Agustin Ferrario (NS), Chris Hewson (ON) and Kevin Black (BC) will support 11 sailors qualified to represent Canada at the ISAF Youth World Sailing Championships.
Team Leader, Agustin Ferrario is the head coach from RNSYS with extensive coaching and leadership experience including YW Team Leader in 2011 (Zadar, Croatia), 2013 (Limassol, Cyprus) and 2014 (Tavira, Portugal). Agustin has been instrumental in the development of a strong provincial race program with 4 RNSYS sailors qualifying for the 2015 Youth World Team.
Kevin Black, a veteran provincial coach from BC Sailing, has extensive experience coaching development level sailors, specifically the double-handed boats. Kevin has also coached high-level international sailors including coaching for Team Canada in the lead up to the 2008 & 2012 Olympic Games. 4 double-handed sailors from BC will compete at the pinnacle event this December.
Chris Hewson, coach for the Ontario Sailing Team, has worked extensively with the single-handed class over the past several years, specifically with top development sailor Matti Muru. Chris has represented Ontario both as Coach and Competitor at the Canada Games, winning a Medal in 2005 and forming part of the team leadership in 2013. Chris is a former competitor (2002) and Coach (2012) at the Youth World level bringing experience from both sides of the equation. A solid team player, Chris is a valued addition to the team.
“Selecting this team of coaches was both challenging and simple at the same time”, says High Performance Director Ken Dool. “The challenge was deciding amongst the many quality candidates that put their names forward, the simplicity was that with such a quality slate to select from we can be very confident in the support our Youth Worlds team will receive.”
