BMO 2016 Women’s National Keelboat Championship

The BMO 2016 Women’s National Keelboat Championship is the final regatta in this year’s Sail Canada Championships series. The event starts Thursday at Britannia Yacht Club with the opening ceremonies and a full day of on-water training. Three days of racing will follow, where 22 boats from 5 different provinces will square-off in pursuit of a gold medal. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, with the top three boats receiving Helly Hansen prizes.
The Women’s Keelboat Championship is a national event that is open to competitors across the country. It is hosted annually, rotating through the western, central, and eastern regions of Canada. This year, centrally-located Britannia Yacht Club, in Ottawa, ON was selected to host the regatta. BYC is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Canada. It is located in the west end of Ottawa, at the head of the Deschênes Rapids, providing access to 45 kilometers of picturesque sailing waters on the Ottawa River.
A forecast of the event shows wind speeds of 6-12 knots, and temperatures ranging from 15-23 degrees. Thursday and Friday are projected to have sunny and clear skies, while Saturday and Sunday will see overcast.
