Announcing the 2016 Canadian Youth World Team

Monday, September 26, 2016 – Kingston, ON 

Canadian youth sailors will make the long journey to Auckland, New Zealand from December 14th - 20th, 2016 to compete in the 46th annual ISAF Sailing Youth World Championships. Sail Canada is pleased to announce that it has selected the Canadian Youth World team that will be representing Canada at this event, led by Team Leader Agustin Ferrario. “The competition in Canada for Youth Worlds has been tough, which only makes our selected athletes stronger when competing against the other 70 nations. We are very excited for the challenge ahead!”

The Canadian roster includes 7 returning team members and 3 new additions:

Laser Radial Girl – Lauren Sullivan – RNSYS

Laser Radial Boy – Matti Muru – OST

420 Girls – Georgia Lewin-LaFrance (skipper) and Madeline Gillis (crew) – RNSYS

420 Boys – Pat Wilson (skipper) and Arie Moffat (crew) – RNSYS/KYC

29er Girls – Emily Bugeja (skipper) and Astrid Frykman (crew) – RVYC

29er Boys – Eric Lyall (skipper) and Andrew Wood (crew) - RVYC

These sailors will be training diligently over the next few months to ensure that they are in perfect form for the World Championships. Last year’s event in Langkawi, Malaysia saw 76 competing nations, with over 300 participants. For more information on the ISAF Sailing Youth World Championships, click here.
