Team: Canadian Sailing Development Sqaud
Ryan was born and lives in Vancouver, BC. He took his first sailing lessons at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club when he was 9. After several years of summer sailing school, Ryan’s brother Andrew decided to join the North Shore Sailing Team. Ryan spent the next year travelling to regattas and watching his brother race. He quickly realized that being on the beach at so many great sailing venues wasn’t as fun as being out there racing. Ryan join the Opti race team the following season at age 13.
As an Opti sailor, Ryan regularly watched the 29ers training and racing, dreaming of sailing them one day. In 2012, Ryan joined the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club race team and began to sail 29ers with his brother Andrew. After competing in his first regatta in San Diego, Ryan was inspired to improve and began spending more and more time on (and in) the water.
In 2013, Ryan competed in the Canada Summer Games, finishing 2nd in the 29er. Ryan has competed in three 29er World Championships and one ISAF Youth World Championships. In 2016, Ryan started sailing on a Farr 30 team as tactician and main trimmer. The team won the 2016 Farr 30 Canadians.
Ryan transitioned into the 49erFX in the summer of 2016 and then into the 49er in the winter of 2016. Ryan is studying engineering at Capilano University.
