2017 Canada Summer Games

Sailors across the country are preparing for the 2017 Canada Summer Games, kicking off July 28th in Gimli, MB. Gimli Yacht Club will play host to athletes from ten provinces, competing in the Laser Male, Radial Female, 29er Male, 29er Female and 2.4M classes. 

Over the last number of weeks and months, sailors have gone through the qualification process to be named to their provincial teams.

Sail Nova Scotia will be sending a full team, with sailors representing their province in each class.

For 2.4M sailor Siobhan MacDonald, this will be her second time competing in the Canada Games. MacDonald competed in the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, QC, and finishing 4th. In addition, MacDonald has been selected as the flag bearer for Team Nova Scotia in the opening ceremonies on July 28th. 

On the other side of the country, Team BC will also have a full contingent of sailors. Including another experienced 2.4M sailor in Delani Hulme Lawrence, who competed in the 2013 Canada Summer Games representing Alberta. Hulme Lawrence finished 5th in 2013.

While BC sailor Henrik Moberg Parker will be competing in his first Canada Games in Gimli, he has was in attendance at the 2001 games in London, ON. Moberg Parker was 6 weeks old at the time, when his mother and BC Sailing Executive Director, Tine Moberg Parker was the sailing Team Manager. 

Teams will start to arrive in Gimli on July 27th and focus on boat set-up, training and getting to know the venue before the official practice race on July 29th. The competition officially gets underway on July 30th. Stay tuned to Sail Canada and 2017 Canada Games platforms for updates and news throughout the games!
