17 days until Kingston’s Summer Sailing Begins!
The action in Kingston this summer kicks off in less than a month, starting with the Laser Canadian Championships. Racing will be from June 20-21st, and for many of the Canadian laser team, it will be the first event back on Canadian soil after their spring European tour.
Sail Canada will be hosting an ISAF Measurement clinic at Portsmouth Olympic Harbor from June 27th – 28th. The clinic will run prior to the start of the 2015 Laser Standard World Championships (June 29th- July 8th). The World Championships begins racing on July 2nd , finishing with prize giving and closing ceremonies on July 8th.
This event is an exciting opportunity for our Canadian Laser team to be sailing an international event on their home waters. Canadian sailors who will be competing include; Lee Parkhill, Evert McLaughlin, Tom Ramshaw, Matthew Ryder and Kingston native Robert Davis.
Laser Worlds marks the beginning of a long and exciting month for Pan Am sailors Lee Parkhill and Evert McLaughlin. There will be little time to rest for these two sailors with only mere days between two events, Parkhill and McLaughlin will travel to Toronto, quickly get settled into the Pan Am village, and be ready to start racing on July 12th. It will be hectic; however the Oakville and Toronto natives are very excited to be competing at their first Major Games in their own backyard!
Laser sailing veterans and Canadian Sailing Team alumni will also be hitting the waters in Kingston this summer to compete in the Laser Master’s World Championships (July 12th- 18th). This will be many of the sailors second time racing a World Championship out of Portsmouth Olympic Harbor in Kingston. Canadian sailors Andy Roy, Bill Fuller, Rob Muru and Al Clark competed in the 1980 Laser World Championships in Kingston and are looking forward to this summer’s event.
The lasers are not the only boats racing in Kingston this summer, Kingston Yacht Club will be hosting the 2015 49er & 49erFX Canadian Championships from July 31st to August 2nd. Sailors competing at this event will be Pan Am 49erFX team Erin Rafuse and Danielle Boyd and CST 49er teams Mori/ Barnes and the Ferguson brothers.

Matti Muru, 2-time Youth Nationals Champion in the Radial Fleet, will be returning to defend his title and qualify for the 2015 Youth Worlds in Malaysia.
Laser Radial Youth Worlds in conjunction with Sail Canada’s Senior Championships at CORK OCR will run from August 15th- 20th, 2015. This will be a busy final event of the summer, with sailors competing in the Laser, Laser radial, 49er, 49erFX and Finn fleet.
