Youth Worlds Underway in Sanya, China!
Sunday, December 10, 2017 - Kingston, ON
The 47th World Sailing Youth World Championships kicked off today in Sanya, China with the Opening Cermonies!
Sailors had an opportunity to hit the water today for the second time since arriving in Sanya. They will be competing in a practice race before racing officially starts tomorrow.
Canada is represented in 4 classes (i420, 29er, Laser Radial, Nacra 15), with a total of 10 athletes. This will be the second year that sailors are competing in Nacra 15 fleet with sisters Helen and Teddy Horangic sailing for Canada in this class.
The Canadian lineup is strong this year with Pat Wilson and Arie Moffat (i420) returning for their 3rd Youth Worlds and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance and Madeline Gillis (i420) returning for their 2nd Youth World Championships as a team.
Sailors will be racing in the waters off Sanya Beach, an area that was said to be one of sailing’s best kept secrets when the Volvo Ocean Race stopped there in 2011-12 and 2014-15.
The Youth Worlds live blog will be following the racing from December 10 through to the conclusion of the event on December 15, 2017. Follow the blog here - http://www.isafyouthworlds.com/multimedia/live_blog.php
