Brakewinders Sailing Club recently hosted two Try Sailing! events with support from Sail Canada’s Sailing for All program, giving to the community a fun introduction to sailing. The first event was an Open House with hands-on stations covering knots, sails, safety, and boat parts, plus kid-friendly activities like paper boat building and colouring. After completing the stations, participants had the chance to head out on the water with a qualified coach—until a passing thunderstorm brought the fun indoors. The second event featured one-on-one, two-hour sailing lessons over four days, offering new sailors the chance to learn the basics and take the helm themselves. Together, the events sparked curiosity, built skills, and inspired new excitement for the sport of sailing.
The Sailing for All program is funded thanks to the Government of Canada.
