ROC(M) INSTRUCTOR – ADMINISTRATION INFORMATION

ROC MARITIME/DSC

The Restricted Operator Certificate – Maritime (ROC(M)) is a Canadian Federal government-issued card that allows you to operate a marine VHF radio. As a result of a partnership between Sail Canada and CanBoat, eligible Sail Canada instructors can be granted the authority to deliver the  ROC(M) with DSC endorsement training and exam.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PROVIDE THE COURSE?

Sail Canada Instructors with a current CANSail 3 & 4 Certified Instructor certification, Basic Powerboat Instructor and/or a Basic Cruising Instructor certification or high level, are eligible to instruct the Maritime Radio Course and conduct exams for the ROC(M).

HOW DO INSTRUCTORS CONFIRM ELIGIBILITY?

Instructors who are interested in providing this training must contact Sail Canada to confirm they meet the requirements and to request they be granted certification as a ROC(M) Instructor.

WHAT MATERIALS ARE REQUIRED TO TEACH THE COURSE AND WHERE ARE THEY AVAILABLE?

Eligible Instructors are required to purchase a Maritime Radio Course Manual and all student Course Manuals, tests, answer sheets, marking keys, application forms and any other related materials for each student. All materials are available for order through CanBoat, and instructors should provide a digital copy of their Sail Canada instructor card when ordering.

WHERE ARE THE COMPLETED COURSE MATERIALS TO BE SENT?

Instructors must send all completed test materials plus a $25 processing fee for each exam directly to  CanBoat for confirmation and issue of cards to successful candidates. Instructors should provide a digital copy of their Sail Canada instructor card when sending completed test material in to be processed.

WHAT PRICE CAN THE INSTRUCTORS CHARGE FOR THE MATERIALS?

Sail Canada instructors may set their own fees but are advised that the cost should be relatively comparable to CanBoat.
