This past Remembrance day weekend the Royal Victoria Yacht Club hosted its first training camp of the 2012-2013 season as a part of RVYC’s training camp series that runs until April 2013. Camps in Nov, Feb, March and April are open to all that wish to attend.
Over 60 Participated in the camp that ran from Friday to Monday, November 9th-12th. Participants from Manitoba, Alberta and around BC were treated to a variety of conditions all weekend long. Everything from light and chilly conditions to 15 knots and warm southerlies kept the sailors on their toes and digging around for warm layers. The focus was on boat handling and fitness as we get started on another year of sailing and competition which is just around the corner.
Classes that played along included the West Coast 49erFX and 49er fleet, 29ers, 420’s, Lasers, Radials, 2.4mRs and Victoria’s local Opti Fleet. This was also an opportunity for the coaches; Peter MacDougal, Stephen McBride, Erik Vanderpol, Mike Jarosz and Kelsey Stroppel to work with Erik Stibbe from Sail Canada to get some coaching tips and tricks and valuable feedback. Included for athletes taking part in the clinic were a fitness test and functional movement screening. It was a fabulous clinic!
