Commodore Jeff Nelson announced today that the Nepean Sailing Club (NSC) near Ottawa, Ontario has been successful in its bid to host the 2010 CYA National Youth Sailing Championships. The Canadian Yachting Association’s championship event for sailors aged 18 and under will be held in Ottawa from July 31 - August 5, 2010.
 
The CYA Youth National Championships are an annual event. Each year the top performers of the event qualify to enter the Canadian Youth Sailing Team selection process. The regatta is tentatively set to be sailed in Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, 29er and Club 420 class boats. As many as 200 or more sailors from coast to coast to coast are expected to register for the regatta.
 
Nelson said, “We are exceptionally proud of another success by the volunteers of NSC in winning this bid. We look forward to providing Canada’s best youth sailors the elite event they deserve.”
 
As well as a 4-day regatta, the event will include the Youth Olympic Training Seminar a CYA event intended to develop coaching & competitive skills camp for Canada’s top young sailors.
