For the past 2 weeks St Margarets Sailing Club, Sport Center Atlantic and CST have hosted a Finn training camp in St Margarets Bay, sailors Martin Robitaille(Que), Paul Brikis (On), Greg Douglas (ON) and Brendan Wilton (NS) with guest coach Vaughn Harrison racked up the hours and miles with a variety of conditions the Bay had to offer from light (one day) to the last day with 18-20 and good sized waves.
Each day after sailing the team would sail back to the Sport Center facility at SMSC for a spin on the stationary bikes to flush out the lactic acid while Vaughn would go over the video taken that day. This was followed by a visit from massage therapist Adnan Rassi and Physiotherapist Karen Decker from the Sport Center team who put the guys in condition for the next day of sailing combined with regular calls and visit by Colin Guthrie, Sport Psych to round out the package
It was exciting to work with this modern crop of Finn sailors that are sharing ideas and training together as a team to push each other toward the podium.
Most days, training was followed by a few races and scores were kept throughout the week and a double point medal race at the end to crown the “Champ of the Camp”. Going into the last day it was a tight series with daily changes on the leader board but it was Martin Robitaille winning the tie break with Greg Douglas and closely followed by Brendan and Paul
Many thanks to the team at Sport Center Atlantic bringing the professional level of athlete assistance to the camp.
