The 2010 Laser and Radial North American Championships were hosted this past weekend at the Texas Corinthian YC in Kemah, Texas. 182 boats representing 15 countries were present, making it truly and international calibre event. Juan Ignacio of Guatemala won the Laser division with a dominating performance in the 73 boat Laser fleet. Canada’s top performers included Robert Davis of KYC in 5th, Greg Clunies of RCYC/KYC in 6th and Ricardo Montemayor of RVYC in 9th. The Radial division was an open event hosting 94 competitors from 12 nations. The overall champion was Alec Anderson of the BVI Yacht Club, Canada’s top performance came from Rebecca Power of RVYC/RNYC (17th overall). Unfortunately with the close proximity of the Radial World Championships the majority of the top flight women competitors were unable to compete, none the less the significant breadth of country representation was a pleasant addition to the championships.
