The Honorable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) paid a visit to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on Saturday to check out some National team sailing activity and learn more about National, Provincial and club sailing initiatives.
The Minister was greeted with a tour of the facilities and a presentation offered by coach Steve McBride regarding activities and collaboration between Sail Canada, the club and the province.
Activities were buzzing on the waterfront as the Minister was escorted to meet some National team members and youth sailors. A variety of Olympic and Paralympic boats were rigged onshore, including the new 49erFX, 2.4mRs, and Lasers. The Minister was enlightened on the variety of boats and complexity of each class. The Honorable Bal Gosal then saw National team sailors Stacie Louttit and Jackie Gay sail off in their 2.4mRs, while another youth sailor launched their Laser boat.
After extending his stay at the club even longer than scheduled, the Minister said his goodbyes with a very favorable impression of our sport and headed off to further scheduled visits at other National training centres in the region.
Special thanks goes out to Steve McBride, Erik Stibbe, Jen Braem, John Abel and the members of RVicYC who worked together to showcase our vision 'Sailing to Win~Sailing for Life'.
