The Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for a number of coaching management positions to implement the High Performance Plan in the next Olympic/Paralympic quadrennial.

National Coach Managers

The Canadian Sailing Team is an integral component of the Canadian Yachting Association. The Canadian Sailing Team reports to the Board of Directors through the Executive Director and the High Performance Director and works closely with the staff and the Athlete Development Committee and its working groups.
National Team Coach Managers are under the overall direction of the Executive Director and the specific direction of the High Performance Director. They work as part of the High Performance Management Team, and interact closely with CYA staff, Provincial Sailing Associations, Sports Centres and other partner organizations.
As a key member of the CYA’s High Performance Management Team, the Coach Manager(CM), working directly with nominated athletes, develops, monitors and implements complete programmes for members of the Canadian Sailing Team preparing for and competing in the Olympic and/or Paralympic Games, World Sailing Championships, International or national competitions. Reporting to the High Performance Director, the CM will put nominated athletes in the best possible position to achieve podium results.  

Development Team Manager
CYA is implementing  a program that will bridge the gap between national level and international level competition.  This program will work with groups of sailor in specified classes to improve results through skill development, training methods, strength and conditioning programs and lifestyle management.  The Development Team Manager will operate this programme under the specific direction of the High Performance Director and work closely with the CYA Coach Managers and the provincial coaches.   The program will be based on interactive camps in various locations in North America.
Knowledge and experience required:
• Applicants must have a strong competitive or coaching background in one of the Olympic/Paralympic  sailing events, NCCP level 3 complete, target of  NCCP level 4 complete or equivalent coaching qualifications.
• Academic qualifications should be of post secondary level in kinesiology, sport management, engineering or related subjects.
• Applicants must know how to operate small motor and sailboats and must have a Canadian Pleasure Craft Operators Card, and Standard First Aid or equivalent.
• Good communication skills are essential and it is highly desirable that the candidates can communicate with athletes in the official language of the athlete’s choice.

Work Environment:
Both positions require substantial international and domestic travel to regattas, training camps and meetings. The schedule includes weekend and evening work. It includes athlete program management, active coaching, program administration, and meetings with volunteers. The positions require initiative, resourcefulness and the ability to work with a minimal supervision.
Re-location may be necessary – the positions are associated with the Canadian Sports Centers and coaching centers yet to be established

Employment will commence in the fall following the completion of the current Olympic/Paralympic cycle.
