Final Race day so tight for medalists! ON, NB & BC take Gold!

There was excitement on the water and the scoreboard in all fleets for the final race of these 2013 Games! All fleets had their second worst scores dropped for final overall standings.

The battle for Bronze medal in the Laser male race was so tight! Ontario’s Ian Hill and Alberta’s Nicolas Hamel sailed 6th and 7th respectively in this final race for the single handed boys, each dropping these scores. Overall scores matched at 33 points each and with tie breaker applied it was Hamel who took the medal! New Brunswick’s Fraser Wells won the final race to take the Gold, while BC’s Max Gallant sailed to 4th finish in the final race to secure the Silver medal.

Final race for the Radial Female fleet offered a show! Quebec’s Rebecca Abelson and Ontario’s Bronwyn Richardson came into the final day sitting in 3rd and 4th respectively. They battled one another in match-race fashion throughout the last race, with Richardson crossing the line in 5th to take the Bronze ahead of Abelson. Nova Scotia’s Corinne Peters won the last race to take Silver medal, while BC’s Natalia Montemayor took the Gold retaining her score lead without racing on the last day.

Ontario’s Jean-Matthieu Bolland & Benjamin Strickland won the last race to secure the Gold medal in the 29er Male fleet.  Finishing 3rd in this race was BC’s Ryan Wood and Lloyd Lyall – these boys showed great promise early in the Games to shine througn to a Silver medal at these Games.  And 2nd in this last race - with consistent performances throughout the Games - was Nova Scotia’s Gregory Simms and Devan Dube to take the Bronze medal.

29er female training partner teams from Quebec and Ontario stayed close through the Games.  Ontario’s Katherine McEwen & Linor Berezin won the final race, giving the girls 4 straight race wins in last two days to securely wrap up their Games with a gold medal! Quebec’s Pépin-Delhaes & Virginie Lavallée-Corbeill took the silver medal after sailing to 3rd place final race finish behind BC’s Madison Innes & Sophie Papp. The BC team took the bronze medal in overall scores.
