July 21-24 in Nova Scotia boasts 2010 CYA Sail East at the Northern Yacht Club. Sailors, families and Coaches, plan your travel 4 days of training and racing activity with fellow sailors from Eastern Canada and northeastern U.S.!
In partnership with Nova Scotia Yachting Association and the CYA, Organizers at NYC are lining up to provide sailors with prime environments for fun, sailing, competition and development both on and off the water. CYA Sail East includes 2 days of training and 2 days of racing – all days accompanied by leadership from a CYA appointed Coach. The CYA is providing event coaching to sailors, and mentorship to coaches - in North Sydney for the 4 days. The CYA Appointed Coach will:
- Pre-racing - Support coaching to sailors without a Coach;
- Pre-racing - As needed - offer guidance to the coaching activities of the Individuals & Groups of sailors, and provide mentorship as appropriate to the Coaches of the Sailors and Sailor Groups
- Pre-racing and during championships – Mentor to a selected Apprentice Coach selected by the host region according to CYA’s Apprentice Coach Mentorship Program
- During championship – Observe Sailor, Coach and Official Activity on courses, providing a de-brief session in a manner similar to that provided at 2009 CYA Youth Nationals (Ken Dool), but stage- and age-appropriate to the 8-12 and 12-16 year old (read: fun and exciting in the Opti and other development boats!).
At 2010 Sail East the CYA Appointed Coach is Robin Blanchard. Over the past fourteen years, Robin has coached professionally with sailors in all stages of develeopment, from grass-roots optimist programs to athletes at the Canada Games, World Championships, and National Team level. Robin acted as head coach for the Quebec Sailing Team for several years, and has recently been training coaches and instructors as a CYA Learning Facilitator. He is a NCCP Level 4/5 program coach and a certified teacher from the University of Ottawa.
