Learn to Powerboat
POWER STUDENT LEVELS
Introduction to Boating - To introduce novice boaters to safe practices when preparing to leave the dock, while underway, and when returning to dock. This standard may be taught in a sailing vessel or a powerboat. It is expected that the vessel will be less than 12 meters in length.
Basic Outboard Standard - To be able to operate safely in familiar waters as skipper of a craft up to 6 metres and powered by an outboard engine under 55 kW (75 hp).
Basic Powerboat Standard - To be able to operate safely in local waters as skipper of craft over 6 metres and powered by an engine over 55 kW (10 hp).
Basic Powerboat - Commercial Endorsement – Same objectives as the basic standard while including conduct for commercial vessles. To be taught on vessels under 12 Tons, up to 40 feet LOA.
Intermediate Powerboat Standard - To be able to operate safely as a skipper a powerboat between 9 to 12 metres with inboard engine(s) by day in moderate wind and sea conditions.

POWER INSTRUCTOR LEVELS
Basic Outboard Instructor - authorized to certify the Basic Outboard student standard provided they are currently registered with the CYA.
Basic Powerboat Instructor - authorized to certify the Basic Outboard and Basic Powerboat student standards provided they are currently registered with the CYA.
Intermediate Powerboat Instructor - authorized to certify the Basic Outboard, Basic Powerboat, and Intermediate Powerboat student standards provided they are currently registered with the CYA.
Basic Outboard Instructor Evaluator - authorized to be a co-conductor at a Basic Outboard IDP.
Basic Instructor Evaluator - authorized to co-conduct at any Instructor Development Program so long as: the IE is certified to certify students at the instructor level to be certified and the IE has taught a minimum of two (2) student level courses at that level provided they are currently registered with the CYA.
Senior Instructor Evaluator - authorized to be the lead conductor at any Instructor Development Program so long as: the IE is certified to certify students at the instructor level to be certified and the IE has taught a minimum of two (2) student level courses at that level provided they are currently registered with the CYA.
